written by Renny Turangga At least 52 members of U.S Congress pressure Bush Administration to stop opposing progress on climate change in Bali. On December 12, 2007, a letter sent by U.S Congress to the U.S President, George W. Bush. “The United States can no longer be the leading opponent of action on climate change. This week in Bali is a moment for leaders from all over the world to come and send strong, compelling message about our commitment to a global solution on climate change. At this critical time we can’t afford to have Bush Administration muddying the water and blocking reasonable targets from being established,” said Senator Kerry. “The opportunity for mitigating climate change is rapidly closing, and I urge the president to heed the call of IPCC, the international community, and the American people and move forward with meaningful action in the next 10-15 years,” said Senator Snowe. At U.S Climate Action Network press conference which was held 30 minutes before U.S Delegation’s press conference in the same room, Erin Kenzie, behalf of other speakers said that they are embarrassed of what U.S did in the conference. Will this pressure affect Bush and the U.S delegates? |
